We advise clients on how to assess and manage the effects of ground-borne noise and vibration in the most practical and cost-effective manner.

Ground-borne noise and vibration occur when vibrations travel through the ground or building structure and can be experienced as physical movement or heard as low-frequency noise within a building.

We provide consultancy services from initial site assessment and planning through to detailed design, construction, and completion, helping to identify potential issues early and develop effective, proportionate mitigation where required. Our approach considers both the technical requirements of a project and the practical measures needed to minimise impacts on building occupants and neighbouring properties.

 

Success Stories

Royal Mint Gardens, London

Client: JRL

Royal Mint Gardens is a highly complex mixed-use residential development comprising 200 dwellings, situated directly above and around the DLR tunnel, which effectively runs through the development, and adjacent to an overground railway line.

The project required a comprehensive building isolation strategy, including the concrete encasement of the DLR line, to mitigate the effects of vibration and structure-borne noise and ensure appropriate acoustic and structural separation throughout the development.

 

The Pavilions, Caledonian Road, Islington

Client: Telford Homes 

351 Caledonian Road, Islington (The Pavilions), is a residential development comprising 156 dwellings, constructed on a former railway embankment above the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL). The site presented significant rail infrastructure constraints, being bounded by the North London Line, the CTRL portal and East Coast Main Line, while the High Speed 1 (HS1) railway runs directly beneath the development.

Despite this complex railway environment and close proximity to multiple operational rail lines, no specific building isolation measures were found to be required as part of the development.

Ashburton Terrace, Plaistow

Client: Plaistow Developments Ltd

Ashburton Terrace, Plaistow, is a mixed-use development comprising 175 studio apartments, constructed on a brownfield site immediately adjacent to an overground section of the London Underground network.

Given the site’s close proximity to operational rail infrastructure, the project required a full building isolation strategy to mitigate the effects of vibration and structure-borne noise and provide appropriate separation between the development and the adjacent railway.

International Way, Stratford

Client: Telford Homes  

International Way, Stratford, is a mixed-use development comprising 380 residential units, constructed on a former hardstanding site adjacent to a railway cutting serving Stratford International.

Despite the site’s close proximity to operational railway infrastructure, no specific building isolation measures were found to be required as part of the development.
